Black Label Retrievers is owned and operated by Dave Didier, Jr.
For me, dog training is more than a profession—it’s a lifelong passion. My journey began in the field as a child, hunting with my first retriever who, though completely untrained, impressed me with her natural instincts. That experience sparked a love for dog work and training that has only grown stronger over the years. In 2006, I began working closely with professional trainers who taught me how to develop my dogs into reliable and skilled hunting companions—and I’ve been training ever since.
With over 20 years of experience in competitive retriever training, I’ve had the honor of competing in multiple UKC Grand Hunting Retriever Tests and AKC Master National Tests. I’m also an active AKC judge and a proud member of both AKC and UKC.
We offer a wide range of training programs tailored to meet your dog’s needs—from basic leash training and obedience, to our Canine Good Citizen program, hunting dog development, and even preparation for AKC and UKC retriever competitions.
At the core of my training philosophy is the belief that trust and companionship are key. Every dog learns differently, and I focus on helping each dog truly understand the concepts we teach—never rushing the process. My goal is to build not only well-trained dogs, but strong bonds between dogs and their owners.
The most rewarding part of this work is that “light bulb” moment—when it all clicks. Whether it’s a hunting retriever ready for the blind or a family pet mastering basic obedience, knowing I’ve helped a dog live a more fulfilling life is the greatest reward.
